Covid-19: Samburu County Assembly to sit once per week

The County Assembly of Samburu will now hold one session per week following the outbreak of the covid-19 pandemic.

This was announced yesterday in a communication to the house by Assembly Speaker Solomon Lempere.

“The County Assembly shall be having one sitting each week, on Tuesdays for one month, until Tuesday 19th May, 2020. Therefore, the assembly should alter its calendar accordingly,” said Lempere.

The County Assembly Boss said the move will facilitate the smooth flow of legislative business and was in line with the measures put in place to combat Covid-19 pandemic.

Lempere further asked MCAs and staff above 58 years to abide by the presidential directive to work from home.

He said the assembly will no longer admit visitors to the gallery until further notice.

In the sitting, the assembly approved an Ad-Hoc Committee that will, inter alia, provide reports to the house on the on-goings in the county on matters Covid-19.

The committee will interrogate the County Budget and forward a proposal of the Supplementary Budget to the Assembly to enhance capacity of the relevant departments.
