Agriculture and Livestock Cabinet Chief Administrative Secretary(CAS) Linah Chebii Kilimo and West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo on Monday commissioned a modern livestock market in Kishaunet.
The market is expected to improve livestock trade in the region.
The market construction was funded by the World Bank in collaboration with the County Government of West Pokot.
Speaking during the opening of the livestock market, Kilimo said the facility will help move our people from subsistence to commercial oriented enterprises.
Governor Lonyangapuo said the establishment of the market is part of the county government’s grand plan to boost livestock farming, which is a key income earner.
He said his administration has pumped in millions to improve livestock breeds in the area targeting beef and dairy farming.
“Livestock sector is one of the sectors we have prioritised to drive the county’s economic agenda and we want to see farmers benefit from livestock farming,” he said.
