Governor Sang urges the State to devolve COVID-19 funds to prevent misappropriation

Nandi County Governor Stephen Sang has urged State to devolve Covid-19 funds so as to prevent misappropriation.

Speaking during the launch of the committee of eminent persons on strategy and response to Covid-19 in the Lake Region Economic Bloc(LREB) at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga grounds in Kisumu, Governor Sang said resources are safer in counties.

Governor Sang said the fight for Covid-19 is at the county level and devolved units should therefore be given more resources.

“What we are asking you is can you devolve them(funds), they are safer within the 47 counties. We can be able to account for them and be able to put them into proper use,” said Sang.

His remarks comes after media reports that funds donated to fight Covid-19 have been misappropriated.

The funds include loans and grants from institutions including the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to support Kenya’s efforts to combat the virus.
