EACC arrests 3 Samburu County officials over irregular award of Sh8.4 million tender

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission(EACC) sleuths have arrested senior Samburu county officials over embezzlement of public funds in a tender deal worth Sh8.4 million.

Three officers, including the Finance Chief Officer, Agriculture Chief Officer and Head of Procurement have been arrested over the irregular award of the tender for the purchase of two tractors and two plugs to CMC Motor Group.

Reuben Lemunyete Maruben, Daniel Nakuo Lenolkirina and Geoffrey Kitewan Marun, were arrested for failing to comply with procurement laws.

They are accused of fraudulently misrepresenting facts in order to influence the award of the tender.

“Upon an independent review of the evidence the DPP issued consent to apprehend and charge the three suspects with various offences under the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act No.3 of 2003 for violation of procurement laws,” read a statement by EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak.

The EACC boss confirmed the arrest of the officials, saying they will be arraigned on Tuesday, 16th June.
