Covid-19: Elgeyo Marakwet and Uasin Gishu counties benefit from vehicles donated to boost contact tracing and surveillance

Elgeyo Marakwet and Uasin Gishu are among 13 devolved units that have received Covid-19 Response Vehicles donated by the World Bank through the National Government.

On Monday, Elgeyo Marakwet Governor represented the Council of Governor during the official handing over of the vehicles by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.

The vehicles have been procured by the Covid-19 Health Emergency Response Project (C-HREP) to help in Contact tracing which has been a critical tool for controlling the pandemic through interruption of the transmission chain by early detection and isolation of cases.

The CS said transport has been one of the key challenges identified especially in accessing the rural areas as the Government works at providing of quality health care.

Kagwe said the vehicles will boost capacity in contact tracing and surveillance as we work to curtail the spread of the virus in the country.

Governor Tolgos on his part pointed out that contrary to reports on print media, counties were working hard to improve their level of preparedness in mitigating the Covid-19.

He cited his County which had already installed 5 fully kitted Intensive Care Unit beds and 201 isolation beds as part of their preparedness to handle coronavirus cases.

“I wish to urge the media to come to the counties and see first hand the progress we are making in getting counties ready in the fight against Covid-19,” he said.

Other counties identified to get the vehicles include Nairobi, Mombasa, Kiambu, Kajiado, Machakos, Nyeri, Migori, Busia, Nakuru, Taita Taveta and Kisii.
