West Pokot Education CEC Gladys Kiyapyap has said the county has made great strides in the education sector following the establishment of ECDE and teacher training colleges.

According to the Kiyapyap, the ECDE college which is now fully operational has seen a high number of students enrol, with the current number of students who are school based standing at 193.

“We have 193 students enrolled for the school based program and we are proud of this college due to its uniqueness in that it is the only ECDE college in the country that offers full and part time courses,” said Kiyapyap.

On Thursday, Kiyapyap presided over the inaugural graduation of 35 students, who were awarded with certificates, after successfully completing their two-year course and are set to kick off their diploma program in April next year.

The Education County Executive said apart from the ECDE college, the Education sector has received a boost from the establishment of the Chesta Teachers Training College, which is also now fully operational.

She revealed that the county government has invested heavily in the institution citing the construction of two modern dormitories.

The teachers training college which was established by the National Government to address the education challenges, currently has its first enrolment standing at 203 students.

“The institution is also unique as it is among the five colleges in Kenya which offer both school based and part time courses,” said Kiyapyap.

She said the establishment of the colleges have ensured students are now getting their training services at a closer distance hence will address ECDE and Primary teacher’s shortages in the county.

Kiyapyap said the institutions have gone a long way in the provision of education needs to region and the country at large

She said it was only through investments in education that the challenges facing the region could be solved, adding educated residents are a great resource the county can have.

“These institutions will go a long way in the provision of education needs to people in this region and the country at large. Currently we have a number of students from outside the county who have enrolled and this is also one way of exposure to them,” added Kiyapyap.
