Stanley Kiptis was yesterday Sworn-in as Governor for Baringo County marking the start of his term as the new county boss.

As he took the oath of office for the first time, Kiptis in his inaugural speech promised to improve security – a problem that has plagued the region for decades.

Security featured prominently in the agenda of the incoming county government with newly elected Governor Kiptis promising to address the problem that has negatively impacted on the region’s development.

“On human security, we endeavour for sustainable policies and programmes to eliminate the perennial cattle rustling that has claimed many innocent lives and property of our people,” Kiptis said.

Baringo County has been the subject of public ridicule due to frequent reports of people struggling with hunger despite the former president Daniel Moi who led for 24 years coming from the region.

On food security, the new Governor Kiptis promised to make the county food sufficient.

“We have potential to transform our productive sector using the appropriate technology to significantly produce more beyond subsistence,” he said.

Immediate former Governor Benjamin Cheboi congratulated his successor and promised to accord him unwavering support.

The ceremony was attended by a host of leaders including Women Representative Gladys Cheruiyot and Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Wilson Sossion who vowed to support the new county boss.
