The County government of Nandi has struck off the ‘five-years experience’ requirement in recent advertisements for job opportunities, as part of a much more lenient approach to the Generation Y.

The ditched measure would have required youth applying for Chief Officer(CO) positions to have a minimum of five years experience in their relevant fields.

In the advert, the County Government pointed out that those applying for the posts must have knowledge in the relevant field in a move viewed as being aimed at helping youth find work.

“The level of youth unemployment is too high and we have to help the youth by avoiding confrontational terms like ‘experience, because it bars them from applying for positions despite the fact that they may have the ability to deliver given an opportunity.”Nandi Governor Stephen Sang had pointed out during his campaigns.

Other requirements that the county government will be keen on include the capacity to work under pressure, excellent communication organisational and interpersonal skills and a demonstration of a thorough understanding of the county objectives and vision 2030.

Apart from striking off the five-year experience requirement, Governor Sang had in his manifesto also promised to establish an external internship coordination and placement program to support youth in job creation.
