Preparations at the multi-billion Eldoret Industrial Park project Special Economic Zones set to be launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta tomorrow Friday are at an advanced stage.

President Kenyatta is expected to launch the project which is approximately 17 Kilometers from Eldoret town in Plateau where he will be joined by Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago and other leaders.

Potential investors have expressed satisfaction with the efforts the Uasin Gishu County Government have put on security and development of road infrastructure. A Chinese delegation recently visited the site where the project will be carried out in order to inspect and identify options on their investment.

Locals living around the site are in jubilant mood as they are already enjoying the benefits of the project. Security has been beefed up and the roads leading into and out of the area have been reconstructed and refurbished.

“I am very impressed with the kind of security which is being put here; fencing of the area is the first step towards securing a good business. The development of roads infrastructure here will make travelling easy and fast in these areas,” a local said.

The project titled Africa Economic Zones will become the first privately owned special economic zone in Kenya. It is expected to take up to 10 years and is widely anticipated to change the lives of people in Uasin Gishu.

Usin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has noted that significant progress will be made in the county during the implementation of the much-anticipated project which is projected to create 40,000 direct jobs and another 150,000 indirect jobs.

Governor Mandago has said he will ensure that the project which is aimed at boosting the economy and business benefits local communities citing that it is the mandate of Government to provide economic empowerment.

“This project is intended to position Eldoret as an agricultural and industrial hub, creating value-adding capacity and ensuring that agricultural commodities produced in Uasin Gishu are processed locally and exported,” he explained.

Plans are underway to establish factories in the Africa Economic Zones, which will include plants for manufacturing as well as a fresh produce hub. Opportunities also abound in food processing.

The hub will host multinational and domestic companies in the manufacturing sector and will provide for logistical services, warehousing, and cold storage.

The project would see the establishment of Olympia City – a residential, recreational and commercial development targeting shopping malls and real estate, an industrial park with plans to house manufacturers and a science and technology park.

Governor Mandago has urged investors to move in and invest in Uasin Gishu terming the county a perfect destination for investment.

“Uasin Gishu is a suitable location with the advantage of easy access to raw agricultural materials as well as land for development. It is safe and secure and the roads are being reconstructed and refurbished to ensure easy and fast movement by locals and our investors,” the Governor said.
