Political Analyst Joshua Kiptoo elected Nandi County Assembly Speaker

Lawyer Joshua Kiptoo was today (Thursday) elected the Speaker of Nandi County Assembly joining others in his profession who have won the coveted seat in Northrift Counties.

Kiptoo garnered 31 votes while closest challenger Gideon Kisorio was a distant second with 4 votes in a vote than ended in the first round. 

George Tarus, Elijah Kitur and Kennedy Kirwa garnered one vote each in the peaceful election.

Others including Mildred Chelimo and Koros Kiptoo did not manage a single vote. 

Kiptoo called for unity among the local Assembly members stressing the need for MCAs to work together to pass laws that will benefit the County.

Kiptoo who is a lawyer joins Philemon Sabulei who was elected Speaker of the Elgeyo Marakwet County Assembly as well as David Kiplagat who won in Baringo.

40 MCAs were also sworn-in in Nandi, 16 of them Women members.
