While Kenyans celebrated Good Friday, it was a bad Friday, literally, for Baringo County Governorship aspirant Stanley Kiptis after his name was revealed as missing in an online Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) list of Jubilee Party aspirants who are set to square it out in the April 21st party primaries.

Sources indicate that panic gripped Kiptis’ camp after revelation of the conspicuous omission which has triggered numerous speculations as to why the Independent Electoral body left out his name in the key list.

The national Jubilee Party Governorship aspirant list published in IEBC Website and carried by one of the major dailies listed the incumbent, Benjamin Cheboi as the only Jubilee Party candidate gunning for the ruling party ticket in Baringo, leaving out his otherwise only competitor, Stanley Kiptis.

This was followed by on online frenzy especially amongst WhatsApp and Facebook users with a genuine online IEBC download link being widely circulated, confirming the absence of Stanley Kiptis name in the Baringo Jubilee Gubernatorial aspirant roll .

Sources privy to ongoings within Kiptis’ camp indicate that the development triggered heightened activity with his inner circle desperate to get possible ways to correct what they viewed as an anomaly.

Observers opine that this development may have been caused by a number of issues including lack of mandatory clearances from relevant agencies.

Many pundits are of the view that IEBC may have not published the aspirant’s name pending his provision of all required documentation needed to meet electoral conditions.

Considering the stakes at play, the presence of the list on IEBC Website over 15 hours since the story started trending may serve to rule out its possibility of being erroneous.

There was an embarrassing occurrence in Mumberes/Maji Mazuri Ward of Baringo recently after the nomination of a Jubilee Party candidate was cancelled when it emerged that he was not a registered voter and therefore it could have been illegal for him to participate in the by-election.

The IEBC may be holding its horses as Kiptis puts his house in order to avoid a repeat of the scenario and to shield itself from blame for seemingly ratifying a candidate who may not qualify eventually for the general election.
