North Rift governors throw weight behind Governor Nanok to retain CoG Chairmanship

Governors from the North Rift region have vowed to back Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok to complete a two-year term as Chairman of the Council of Governors (CoG).

Speaking during the inauguration of Governor Nanok and his deputy Peter Lotethiro at the Ekaales Centre in Lodwar today, Governors Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu), Alex Tolgos (Elgeyo Marakwet), Prof. John Lonyangapuo (West Pokot) and Patrick Khaemba (Trans Nzoia) said they will unite to ensure Nanok retains the seat he won just months to the general elections.

“We want the seat to remain in North rift and when we meet as Governors, we will push for Governor Nanok to continue as Chairman of CoG. I am confident that the CoG will unite behind him,” said Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago.

Following his iaugauration for a secind term, Governor Nanok assured residents of Turkana that he will deliver on his pre-election promises of tackling water shortage for domestic use as well as for livestock and irrigation agriculture.

He said that through partnership with UN agencies as well as other development partners, additional resources will be found to ensure the county was food secure and that the challenge of water shortage was solved.

West Pokot Governor-elect Prof. John Lonyangapuo pledged to work closely with Governor Nanok to provide a lasting solution to insecurity caused by cattle rustling and banditry along the Pokot and Turkana border.

The inauguration was also attended by Senators-elect Prof. Malik Ekal of Turkana and Samuel Poghisio of West Pokot counties, Members of Parliament-elect John Lodepe (Turkana Central) and Jeremiah Lomurukai (Loima).

Also in attendance was a delegation from Uganda, Ethiopia and South Sudan.
