Independent candidate for Nandi Hills parliamentary Seat Bernard Kitur has said he is confident of a win in tomorrow’s polls.

Speaking to Northrift News on Saturday as he wrapped up his campaigns, Kitur said he is ready to assume the leadership mantle

“I am ready to take Nandi Hills to the next level in terms of development and the people are showing a lot of faith in me,” he argued.

He said he desires to have a society where people are economically empowered to fend for themselves and that he has what it takes to liberate his constituents from economic shackles.

The 33-year-old former banker at Barclays and Chase bank is not new to politics having unsuccessfully contested for Tinderet parliamentary Seat in 2007. He nursed his political bruises and has made an optimistic comeback.

Kitur says he wants to change the unending challenges facing the people of Nandi County. He says there is need to support the economic empowerment of both the young and old by reviving the dormant sectors of the economy.

“I will ensure that we have our own tea factory that will directly benefit the farmers since they will ensure that it is properly managed in order to reap benefits from it,” says Kitur who once worked with a clearing and forwarding company.

Kitur’s popularity has significantly increased within the last one month as he hit the ground running reaching out to every corner of Nandi Hills asking for votes.

He decries the collapse of financial and agricultural institutions that could have promoted economic growth among the people.

“I will support the reestablishment of financial institutions that have been on their knees like Teachers Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOS) and ensure that we have many milk cooling plants to salvage dairy farmers from losses they have been incurring,” said Kitur.

At the same time, Kitur has promised to support the jobless youth by providing computers to encourage them to engage in online-based jobs.

“For the bodaboda operators, I will ensure they are registered as a group in order to provide them with loans and insurance covers,” he added.

He says he has a conviction that better development can be attained by building a close relationship with the devolved government.

“My office will work closely with the county government to ensure that the health sector is well managed and that we set up a medical camp every year for cancer screening since it is a killer disease. People need to be taken through regular checkup,” said Kitur.

Kitur argues that a lot has to be done in almost all key sectors particularly education, roads and health in the area.

“We must put in place proper structures that will guide us to achieve all the initiatives we will start for the benefit of our people, including infrastructural development in schools and giving scholarships to bright students from poor backgrounds, I have no doubt the people will give me overwhelming support,” said Kitur.

“We shall focus on education, agriculture, health, water and sanitation, and job creation for our youth if I am elected MP,” he added.

Kitur lashed out at incumbent MP Alfred Keter alleging misuse of Constituency Development Funds (CDF) and failure to address the grievances of workers who were dismissed from Eastern Produce Kenya limited (EPK) following an industrial strike in the recent past.

He says he believes his opponent is not as strong as people perceive and that his game could well end at the general elections tomorrow.

Kitur has a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration (Commerce) from the University of Nairobi and is currently pursuing a masters degree in science.
