Nandi County Governor Stephen Sang stamped his authority in the North Rift region after his preferred candidate clinched the Nandi County Assembly Speaker’s seat with a resounding first round win.

Political Analyst Joshua Kiptoo was elected to become the second assembly speaker with a landslide victory, with his triumph being hailed as Sang’s greatest victory in the assembly.

The election turned into a vote of confidence for the Governor with Kiptoo winning the seat in the first round garnering 31 votes out of the total 38 votes that were cast.

According to sources, Sang had hosted Members of County Assembly on Wednesday eveing where he endorsed Kiptoo for the speaker’s seat.

The County boss was categorical at the MCA’s Meeting that the youthful lawyer, who hails from Tinderet constituency, was his favourite and urged members to support him.

Though Governor’s Josphat Nanok(Turkana) and Prof. John Lonyangapuo(West Pokot) successfully pushed through their preferred choice of candidates for the Speaker’s position their wins were not as convincing as it was in Nandi.

In Uasin Gishu County, Governor Jackson Mandago had thrown his weight behind Advocate Christopher Mitei who was defeated, coming second after Speaker David Kiplagat.

In Elgeyo Marakwet, it was a push and pull between Governor Alex Tolgos and Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen with the latter emerging victorous after his candidate Kiplagat Sabulei won the seat.

In Trans Nzoia it was a major blow to Governor Patrick Khaemba’s brigade that had hoped to deliver the Assembly post after Jubilee’s Joshua Werunga was elected.
