President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday announced the appointment of Former Turkana Central MP Immanuel Ichor Imana as the new Chairperson of the National Irrigation Board (NIB).

While making the announcement, President Kenyatta urged Mr. Imana to ensure that key irrigation projects by National Irrigation Board are hastened in order to address food scarcity in the drought-prone areas like Turkana.

Mr. Imana formerly served as Governor Josephat Nanok’s political advisor but was sacked last year following his close links with Jubilee.

Governor Nanok said he had axed the Former MP and further stripped him off powers as peace ambassador on behalf of the Turkana County Government for associating with his rivals allied to Jubilee party.

Imana was elected on a Kanu ticket and served as the Turkana Central Member of Parliament between 1994 and 1997 before he was floored by current Senate Speaker Ekwee Ethuro.

He replaces Prof. Malachy Ekal who relinquished his position recently and teamed up with Governor Nanok in the ODM party.

Prof. Ekal has declared that he will run for Turkana Senate seat on an ODM party ticket.
