Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (ELDOWAS) has assured residents of Eldoret town and its outskirts drinking from its supply that the water is safe.

Residents of Kapsoya Estate in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County had expressed concern over the quality of water supplied by the company.

However, speaking to Northrift News on Wednesday, acting Managing Director Jimmy Kemboi said that the water remains safe for consumption and that water quality was being closely monitored.

The acting managing director said that the water supplied is safe and the residents should have nothing to worry about.

He said the aesthetic problems of foul taste, smell and colour were normal and were the result of the recent heavy rains witnessed.

Kemboi said that they have taken measures to clean the system by replacing pipes and flushing out affected lines and that they are monitoring affected areas.

“Water quality is closely monitored via a large number of samples analysed according to standard requirements, the chlorine levels are okay and the water is quite safe for consumption,” said Kemboi.

Quality Assurance Manager Edwin Mengich revealed that the tests are done on three levels, first, before the water is released into the system, when it is in the system and at the point of consumption.

Kemboi urged residents to work with the company to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in supply of water.

At the same time, he put on the spot those who steal water through illegal connections and called on residents to be vigilant and report on cases of tampering of lines and breakage of pipes saying that it leads to lose of revenue and limits water supply to other customers.

He urged residents with any issues concerning the water supply to reach ELDOWAS through their customer care number 0724255538.

ELDOWAS whos principal shareholder is the County Government of Uasin Gishu supplies water mainly from Chebara dam which is located in Elgeyo Marakwet county.

It supplies the residents of Eldoret town and its outskirts with 36,000 cubic metres of water per day against a daily demand of 55,000 to 60,000.

Plans are underway for the construction of a new plant in Uasin Gishu County that will produce additional thousands of cubic metres of water daily.
