Deputy President William Ruto has asked Uasin Gishu gubernatorial candidate Bundotich Zedekiah Kiprop alias Buzeki to step down and support Governor Jackson Mandago.

Speaking in Kapteldon, Kapseret constituency, the Deputy President said all independent candidates allied to the party should consider stepping down.

“Mswahili anasema asiyekubali kushindwa si mshindani, hata yule Buzeki aliyeshindwa mumeambie aunge mkono Mandago which loosely translates to “he who doesn’t accept defeat is not a sportsperson, even Buzeki who was beaten at the party primaries should step down and support Mandago,”said Ruto.

The Deputy President said Rift Valley is a Jubilee stronghold and therefore those who decamped after the nominations should quit and support candidates with JP tickets.

The new development is a big blow to Buzeki who had in the past defended his move on grounds that the primaries were marred by many irregularities.

The multimillionaire has since unleashed billboards which carry his poster as an independent candidate and declaring support for Uhuruto’s reelection, an indication that he is determined to run the full course.
