Conduct peaceful campaigns, Uasin Gishu IEBC official urges aspirants

Uasin Gishu County Independent Electoral and and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) returning officer Jacktone Nyonje has urged aspirants to maintain peace,cohesion and tranquility during their campaigns.

Nyonje said the commission is closely monitoring their campaigns and will take stern actions against aspirants who will engage in election malpratices.

“I urge aspirants to refrain from using incitive utterances and destroying their competitor’s posters. This is against the law and those involved will be arrested and charged,” he said in Eldoret town after meeting aspirants.

“Any aspirants who will be offended should report to our offices instead of staging retaliatory attacks.The commission will not condone acts of violence,” he added.

He called upon aspirants in the county to ensure they follow their campaign harmonization schedule to the latter to avoid colluding with competitor’s supporters.

“Election malpratices attract a fine of Kshs 1 million or a jail term of 6 months,” noted Nyonje.

He assured residents that the August 8th elections will be conducted in a free and fair manner.
