Baringo Central MP hopeful Eddy Koimett has called on the Police Department to invest more in mental health services to help police officers contemplating suicide or murder in response to the stresses of the job.

This follows an incident which happened early this week at Kasiela AP camp in Marigat after a police officer went berserk and shot dead two of his colleagues.

Koimett, who is eyeing the parliamentary seat on a Kanu ticket, said the government should move with speed to ensure that the officers who are in operation zones are offered regular counselling services.

“Security officers who are taking part in the operation go through psychological trauma and they should be given counseling after a certain period of time” he said.

Koimett pointed out that when the stress level goes high while the soldiers are on the ground then they might be tempted to commit crimes.

At the same time the parliamentary hopeful urged the national government to ensure that they prioritize security as one of their top agendas in the county.
