Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has promised frustrated farmers in North Rift that they will receive their payments.
There have been complaints that irregularities in the purchase of maize at the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) allowed unvetted farmers to supply the produce.
CS Kiunjuri said NCPB bosses were negligent because the number of bags supplied was inordinately large in some cases.
Some traders were paid within weeks from the date of delivery, while genuine farmers have waited for five months.
On Monday, farmers held a consultative meeting in Eldoret town with leaders from the region to deliberate on their woes.
During the meeting the farmers made a raft of recommendations including that true farmers be paid for the maize they delivered to the NCPB.
The farmers also recommended that the National Government hands over NCPB functions to the County Government.
