​Philemon Sabulei clinches Elgeyo Marakwet County Assembly Speaker Seat

Former head of Moses Changwony Secretariat Philemon Sabulei has been elected the second Elgeyo Marakwet County Speaker in a vote that went to Round Two.

Mr Sabulei got 20 votes out of the 34 that were cast.

Lawyer Ledisha Kipsei who is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya came second with 13 votes.

The vote went into the second round after none of the candidates garnered the mandatory two-thirds of the total vote, 22 out of 33 required to be declared winner.

In the first round, Mr Sabulei garnered 13 votes as Ledisha managed 11.

Another contestant Berem Risper garnered 6 votes while George Kipkemboi, Pius Cheruiyot and Willy Chepkiyeng garnered 1 vote each. 

Mr Sabulei survived a rocky campaign where he was alleged to have been sponsored by a prominent personality in the county for the position.
